The
August Edition of Ask Dangerous Lee
Q: I'm just as guilty as the next, but
why do people talk more than they listen? Do we assume
that we have more to teach than we have to learn?
A:
If you're just as guilty as the
next then you should have a pretty good idea of why
people talk more than they listen. For me, it would
have to be that I am trying to seem interested in
their conversation. You can only nod and say "
huh" so many times before the person
asks "know what I mean?" It sucks when you have no
answer so yapping over them seems better. Damn, did
I give my conversation secret away?
Q:
In the wake of the Virginia Tech tragedy do you feel
the media reports too much? In the search for
increased audience share, each network tries to
outdo the other. No one is immune to this sensory
overload.
CNN, Fox News, ABC, NBC, and CBS each attempts
to add a new spin to a news item. A few of the families
learn
of the events from the media instead of being contacted
by local authorities. In addition to this, I feel
that sometimes this encourages copy cat crimes.
I
welcome
your comments on this.
Blackfire,
Flint, MI
A:
Yes, the media does offer TMI (Too Much Information)
when unnecessary for the sake of ratings and
viewer ship. Sometimes the details they provide
make me
wonder if they could have prevented some of
these tragedies
from occurring. Do you turn when they give
in dept reports and breaking news? No and neither
do I.
Does that make us media whores or media victims?
You decide.
Q:
Most of my immediate family lives in Houston, and
I was talking about how most serial killers
come from
or pass thru Texas at some point in their
careers and my sis pointed out the Detroit has a
higher
crime rate
than Houston. I was unaware so I checked
a few stats and not only is Detroit in the top
five
most violent
cities in the U.S. (Houston isn't even in
the top ten), but Flint is right behind Detroit.
What do
you think
about this and why do you think this is happening
in your home town? I was really surprised.
Nykos's
Auntie, Houston, TX
A:
What do I think about it? It saddens me. Why do I
think this is happening? That's
a loaded question that I cannot completely
answer. I have no idea why Flint is close to the
top of the
list of most violent cities, but I'm
sure this list is based on population
and neither Flint or Detroit has the population of
Houston. On the other
hand there are many violent crimes taking
place in Flint, but there are also many positive
and non violent
events happening in Flint. Don't
judge a city by its crime rate. Come
visit us and I'm
sure you will get home alive.
Q:
How do you know when you're an adult?
tt!,
Flint, MI
A:
When your 18th birthday arrives you're
an adult, legally. If you're 18
or for that matter 35 and cannot
handle your own damn business and you'd rather run
the streets getting high, not working, and can't
commit to anything then you're
not an adult. Comprende?
Q:
Do you consider men who are polite and caring to
be pushovers,
or more
like a
throw back
to days past
when men didn't address women
as bitches or hoes? It seems we had
more crooners
back then
than
we do now.
Plus do you think music is big
factor in what to expect in men
now a days
Jason,
Oakland, CA
A:
First of all where are these men you speak of? Secondly,
no I do not
consider
polite
and caring
men to be pushovers,
I consider them adult and
mature
men; this can be an extension
of the answer
I provided
for
the last
question
. I also consider these types
of men rare so please tell
me where
I can
find one. |
