The August Edition of Ask Dangerous Lee

Q: I'm just as guilty as the next, but why do people talk more than they listen? Do we assume that we have more to teach than we have to learn?

A: If you're just as guilty as the next then you should have a pretty good idea of why people talk more than they listen. For me, it would have to be that I am trying to seem interested in their conversation. You can only nod and say " huh" so many times before the person asks "know what I mean?" It sucks when you have no answer so yapping over them seems better. Damn, did I give my conversation secret away?

Q: In the wake of the Virginia Tech tragedy do you feel the media reports too much? In the search for increased audience share, each network tries to outdo the other. No one is immune to this sensory overload. CNN, Fox News, ABC, NBC, and CBS each attempts to add a new spin to a news item. A few of the families learn of the events from the media instead of being contacted by local authorities. In addition to this, I feel that sometimes this encourages copy cat crimes. I welcome your comments on this.

Blackfire, Flint, MI

A: Yes, the media does offer TMI (Too Much Information) when unnecessary for the sake of ratings and viewer ship. Sometimes the details they provide make me wonder if they could have prevented some of these tragedies from occurring. Do you turn when they give in dept reports and breaking news? No and neither do I. Does that make us media whores or media victims? You decide.

Q: Most of my immediate family lives in Houston, and I was talking about how most serial killers come from or pass thru Texas at some point in their careers and my sis pointed out the Detroit has a higher crime rate than Houston. I was unaware so I checked a few stats and not only is Detroit in the top five most violent cities in the U.S. (Houston isn't even in the top ten), but Flint is right behind Detroit. What do you think about this and why do you think this is happening in your home town? I was really surprised.

Nykos's Auntie, Houston, TX

A: What do I think about it? It saddens me. Why do I think this is happening? That's a loaded question that I cannot completely answer. I have no idea why Flint is close to the top of the list of most violent cities, but I'm sure this list is based on population and neither Flint or Detroit has the population of Houston. On the other hand there are many violent crimes taking place in Flint, but there are also many positive and non violent events happening in Flint. Don't judge a city by its crime rate. Come visit us and I'm sure you will get home alive.

Q: How do you know when you're an adult?

tt!, Flint, MI

A: When your 18th birthday arrives you're an adult, legally. If you're 18 or for that matter 35 and cannot handle your own damn business and you'd rather run the streets getting high, not working, and can't commit to anything then you're not an adult. Comprende?

Q: Do you consider men who are polite and caring to be pushovers, or more like a throw back to days past when men didn't address women as bitches or hoes? It seems we had more crooners back then than we do now. Plus do you think music is big factor in what to expect in men now a days

Jason, Oakland, CA

A: First of all where are these men you speak of? Secondly, no I do not consider polite and caring men to be pushovers, I consider them adult and mature men; this can be an extension of the answer I provided for the last question . I also consider these types of men rare so please tell me where I can find one.

In my column I answer all kinds of crazy ass questions about celebrities, dating, current events, pop culture, the local scene, you name it I answer it. Beware, my answers come with a price! Can you handle it?

Remember Ask Dangerous Lee is a humor advice column, but I am no doctor or expert so I tend to call it an opinion column. Got questions? Send 'em to AskDangerousLee@hotmail.com and you could be in the next edition of Ask Dangerous Lee! Remember the crazier the questions are the better!

The July Edition of Ask Dangerous Lee

Q: Why do women think because men don't please them that they will get with a woman and get pleased just because it's another woman?

Tee, Cleveland, OH

A: I don’t think that this is a typical move for women as you have stated it. It seems as if you’re saying that because men are not hitting the spot sexually that women are turning to other women. Not the case. If that was the case I’d have a girlfriend by now! What you have are women who are open about exploring their sexuality, or women who are bisexual, or women who are gay and have been wasting their time having sex with men trying to feel something. Since you’re a woman asking this question I would love to know the motive behind this question.

Q: I have had a series of very bad things happen in the past six months: divorce, job loss and a major car accident. So far I have been able to walk away from things and it has worked out in my favor i.e. out of a bad marriage, new job with more flexibility and cash, car is totaled, so I have a new car. I don't really know how to feel but I am strangely happy. Is this normal?

RL, Los Angeles, CA

A: Yes. It seems like you have to hit rock bottom in order to receive joy and pleasure. I have come to accept the fact that it’s darkest before the dawn and if you get something easy it’s not worth it; and all those other corny sayings we spit out to make ourselves feel better when we’re down. However, don’t think you’re invincible. If faced with the barrel of a gun, duck!

Q: Why is it that when you are mean to a guy he’s more into you? Yuck! Don’t get it.

Lady V, Sadist, Michigan

A: Men see that as a challenge and it definitely turns them on especially if they’re attracted to you. Men like this are masochists and you are definitely playing the role of a sadist. If you don’t like a man you have to freak him out a little bit. Tell him you have a STD; if he doesn’t run in the other direction get a restraining order.

Q: Are things getting better between men and women?

Wreal, Atlanta, GA

A: In regards to what? Sex? Love? Relationships? Marriage? Workplace? Politically? I could go on, but the answer to all would be HELL NO! I assume you deal with women on a daily basis you should be reaping the reality of your question.

Q: I was wondering what your opinion is on the movie that they are shot in Flint? Not the movie itself, but how it will affect the city of Flint. I keep hearing that it will be good for the city because they are paying to be there, yet no one knows what will be done with said money, or how much it is for that matter. I can’t help but think that whatever is being made from it will just be wasted on something stupid like those stop lights at the corner of Dort and Court.

Mykie P, Flint, MI

A: My opinion is that it was a great thing for our local business economy. I hope moves are made in order for the movie to premier here in Flint. I also feel that more of the movie should have been shot in the city of Flint. The movie is based in Flint, MI and yet only a few scenes will be authentic. We should be grateful because as I hear it there were no plans in the beginning to shoot any scenes in Flint. With the high murder rate I’m sure they were afraid of casualties, so anything positive helps us greatly.
